Fünfknopfturm

N2 Historic old town Kaufbeuren

Kaufbeuren is about 1200 years old and older than f.e. Munich. Because it wasn't destroyed in the WW2 there are still very old houses in the town.

See also the leaflet: "Kaufbeuren – town in the Allgäu", which is in your room.

Nice access to the historic center:

Address: Apfeltranger Str. 3, 87600 Kaufbeuren (google maps)
Access to old city
Park your car in the road "Hölzlestraße" or
park your car on the parking area of the Penny supermarket. The parking area is actually for custumers only. But I don't think or hope anything will happen.

From the northern end of the parking area, where the road "Hölzlestraße" begins there are signs to the "Altstadt" and "Minigolfplatz". Follow the paved walkway for pedestrians and bikes and then ‐ after leaving the trees - take the footpath uphill to the right towards the tower "Fünfknopfturm". It will bring you on top of the ancient city wall. Decend a few meters and go uphill again to the café "Café am Fünfknopfturm". Here you have a nice view of the town.
You can walk north along the old city wall to the church St.Blasiuskirche or
pass the cafe and decend the steps, that lead you down to the center.

• Remember the place where the stairs begin for the way back!
Driving time: 5 min
Walking time: 10 min
