Kaufbeuren is much more than just a stopover in the Allgäu. The historic old town invites you to simply wander: through narrow alleys, past colorful townhouses, small shops, and cozy cafés.
Particularly worth seeing are the Fünfknopfturm complex with the old city wall, St. Martin’s Church, the Monastery and the Crescentia Memorial, as well as the historic Kaisergäßchen and Kirchplatz area. There is still an astonishing amount to discover from Kaufbeuren’s medieval past.
The best part is that the Old Town is easy to navigate. Even a one- to two-hour stroll gives you a good sense of the area—and if you stop by a café or beer garden afterward, you’ll experience Kaufbeuren not just as a tourist attraction, but as a vibrant Allgäu town.
If you’re visiting Kaufbeuren, you should definitely not just view the Old Town from your car—it’s well worth getting out and strolling through it.

Drive to the big parking area (with low cost gasstation) of the shopping center "V-Markt" and the "Buroncenter".
Cross the shopping centre inside, cross the street and go straight on into the old town.
